2001 Kenwood, Sonoma County, Sauvignon Blanc
I was in the US nations capital, Washington, DC. I was overlooking the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial not far off in the distance, in a hotel next to the Humvee and machine gun guarded, Pentagon building. The country was on Orange Alert. I had just arrived off a flight where I was required to stay seated the last 45 minutes of the flight. I was staying at the DoubleTree hotel, and was currently sitting in the rotating restaurant/lounge in the top floor of the South tower. I arrived at the hotel late, needed a bit to eat, but all the restaurants were closed. My only option was the rotating restaurant/lounge. It was Karaoke night. And I decided to stay, have a bite, and watch the entertainment. I ordered the grilled chicken wings in a honey BBQ hot sauce, served with celery sticks and creamy buttermilk dressing. A bit different from the burn your mouth out, put it out with a fire extinguisher wings that I'm used to. I ordered this 2001 Kenwood, Sonoma County, Sauvignon Blanc to accompany the wings. The wine has light with an airy bouquet that wakes up the nose and alerts the taste buds to expect the unexpected. When the wine comes to the taste buds it's very sharp and intense. Then just when you aren't expecting anything you are enveloped with a deep fruity taste. This after taste was so smooth. The more reviews I write and the deeper I get into the wine area, the more I realize that wine is not so much about taste, it's about taste plus experience. Tonight, in this place I've never been to or never seen, I'm drinking wine while 8 people, of various nationalities and origins, are up singing \One Day All 7 Will Die\". 4 of the singers are white and 4 are black. They've never met before tonight. They're arms are around each others shoulders and they are belting out this song while an Asian couple is slow dancing right next to them. I miss this. The interracial mixing the harmony. It's refreshing. I don't get to experience this much in the town I live in. Ah back to the wine. Again it's not just about taste it's about experience. And what I'll always remember in a country that was gripped by the fear of terror about this wine is that while I was drinking this particular Kenwood Sauvignon Blanc in these bizarre surroundings I was reminded that one by one individual by individual there is and can be harmony in the world. This wine will always bring a smile to my face hopefully it will do the same for you

Well, maybe
It's not really about taste plus experience, though. It's about taste. You clearly love wine. Might I suggest, if you're interested in writing about wine, that you learn some basic terminology? How would you describe the bouquet of this wine? How about the taste? Was it fruity? Did it tend toward the grapefruit range, or the lemon/lime range? Was it grassy? Did it exhibit minerality? Did it finish well? Every varietal has a certain profile, and sauvignon blancs are no different. What most of us want to know is, where does this particular wine fit within the variety? May I suggest you check out John Cleese's "Wine For The Confused"? I'd post a link, but it's not allowed. It's on YouTube.
